Nabokov’s Anti-Nazi Heroic Couplets

That was to get your attention, but it’s also true. The poem is below, after my remarks.

Brief background: the first Superman story appeared in Action Comics #1 (creators: Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster) and was on newsstands in May 1938. Four years later, in the middle of the Second World War, Nabokov writes this poem and submits it to the New Yorker. It gets rejected.
